A message from the 2016-2017 President:
The Board of Directors of the Akron Section and I welcome you to our 2016-2017 professional activities. First, let me thank Keith Pelfrey for the excellent job he did last year in putting together a super program. If you haven’t been to a section meeting lately, you are missing a lot. Attendance is up and the programs have been very interesting. With the support of Rik Keeley and Jon Sovis from the Cleveland chapter, we have another interesting and educational program of technical and social meetings for you to enjoy this year.
All meetings will be held jointly with the Cleveland Section except for our separate Award Nights in May. You will find program details in the newsletter, web site or Facebook home page. Note that meetings will be held in the Akron Fairlawn Hilton on West Market Street on the second Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. unless otherwise indicated.
We start the year on September 12 with a tour of The Technology House in Streetsboro. They will show us the latest in CLIP, Continuous Liquid Interface Production. CLIP is a photochemical process using both light and oxygen to build parts. This is truly cutting edge technology and well worth the visit. The Technology House will also have dinner for us at their facility. More details and registration information will be forthcoming.
The Akron Section will again host the TPE Division TopCon entitled “Stretching Performance with TPEs” on September 21 and 22. This year they will also present a separate primer targeted toward newcomers to the field. This will be given the afternoon before the TopCon, on September 20. More information is available from our website or Facebook page.
If you would like to participate in the leadership and decision making, please join us at the board meetings. This year, board meetings are generally scheduled the first Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. in the conference room of the UA Polymer Engineering Academic Center. Please contact me for details.
I’m looking forward to meeting you at an upcoming Akron SPE event.
Robert Weiler, President 2016-2017 Akron Section of SPE
