Passing of the gavel - from Dan Jones to Michelle Martin for 2025-2026 season.
A message from the 2025-2026 President:
Welcome to the 2025-2026 year for SPE Akron section. I’m honored to be serving as this year’s President and look forward to all the fun activities and industry events coming soon.
SPE Akron is comprised of a group of professional and passionate individuals who want to keep the polymer industry innovating and growing. Our board is manned by multiple sectors within STEM fields, bringing together varying views and ideas to better serve our community.
As we are a non-profit organization, many of the things we do are based on a volunteer basis and funds are provided as donations to continue our work. Our awards celebration taking place in May of each year is about awarding scholarships to local students pursuing STEM careers. This is something we take great pride in and want to continue expanding the scholarship outreach. If you would like to learn more about our named scholarship programs or want to contribute, please reach out here (send us a message).
Another large part of what we do is bringing education and awareness from surrounding companies to our networking professionals. Through our network we facilitate tours of some of the most interesting manufacturing and testing labs in the area. Both large and small companies, we enjoy the opportunity to learn and introduce others to the fascinating world of polymers. Being a member of SPE Akron, you are already helping in this regard. Still considering membership? Most memberships are free and grant you access to a large group of individuals and content.
As we look ahead - becoming involved in the community and volunteering opportunities in support of students is a large target for our section. The big question is – What can we do to bring polymers and STEM talks to your dinner table?
We encourage you to sign up when you see topics of interest in our emailed newsletters. Please check our website for more information SPE Akron.
Come join us at Simplay3 on November 10th for a chance to see rotational molding in consumer goods production.
We will be joining SPE Cleveland and SPE Erie at the AMI Plastics World EXPO in Cleveland Ohio on November 12-13. This event is a must-see for those in the plastics compounding, recycling and equipment manufacturing space.
As we move into Winter and Spring months, we have many other tours planned so please stay tuned!
Thank you for your support, Michelle Martin President 2025-2026 Akron Section of SPE
